Help a Strong Kenyan Community Get Even Stronger

Kimuumo Secondary School is a relatively new extension of a longstanding primary school in rural Kenya. A visit to the community reveals a hard-working farming community that is concerned about their youth in a changing world. The establishment of a secondary school a few years ago has opened the door for students to continue their education without leaving their homes and families.

The Whall family, along with FTL co-founder Brian, present Kimuumo Secondary School visionary Peter Muthusi with the a set of textbooks for Form 1 & 2 (9th and 10th Grade) in the area of English, maths, Kiswahili and chemistry.

Join Freedom Through Learning, along with Kimuumo Elementary School alumnus Peter Muthusi, as we acquire brand new textbooks to support the Kenyan high school curriculum. An extensive wish list of books includes English, biology, agriculture, maths, Christian education and several revision editions.

This sizable acquisition, happening in phases, has already begun. On a recent family trip to Kenya, the Whall family from Canada oversaw the delivery of several English and mathematics textbook sets.

One of the secrets to FTL’s success in Kenya has been to raise funds and specifically acquire approved curriculum materials.

Kimuumo Secondary School visionary Peter Muthusi receives a generous donation of resources from FTL co-founder Brian Lavender on behalf of “Icepack”, a generously supportive team from the Charleswood Slow Pitch League in the Canadian province of Manitoba.

Further, the great folks at “Icepack,” a generous team that’s been part of the Charleswood Slow Pitch League in Manitoba, Canada, have decided to share support by providing books for 9th and 10th grade physics, biology and chemistry.

Bringing together educators and their worldwide supporters is what Freedom Through Learning is all about.

Make the Difference! Help Renovate a Library in a Nairobi Slum

The New Year is truly that: a time of renewal. It’s a time to count blessings and make plans. In Mathare, one of Kenya’s most dynamic slums, there a is a movement to empower young people through education and belonging.

FTL’s longtime partner, the MCEDO-Beijing school, is currently renovating its library in time for the new school year, which starts in January, 2015. Work has already begun – improving floor and wall surfaces – and the critical improvements to reading material are on the horizon.

This Christmas and New Year, Freedom Through Learning is seeking partners who want to help build the library’s collection of relevant, inspiring literature to feed the minds of Mathare’s changemakers. Books are now being sourced in both English and Kiswahili so the best new resources will be available when the students return to school.

Gifts of any size are welcome and FTL will apply the 110% plan to extend our supporters’ generosity even further. In a well-run school like MCEDO, the resources will last for years, so our partners can give with confidence. Photos and updates will be shared as the library is completed.

This New Year, be part of something amazing! Use the link below to share your blessings.
